Re: [tracecompass-dev] UI for external analyses

Hi,

Being able to read in detail how an "external analysis" works may be important in order to decide if and how to use it. Just having the name will probably not sufficient. Searching all external analysis docs for keywords might also be interesting in that respect, once the number of analyses grows.

Actually I could imagine that end users would start off reading external analysis docs since collecting the trace itself may need specific events / contexts etc before the respective analysis even makes sense ? Can a contributed analysis specify preconditions?

Yes, that is an idea that has been floating around for some time. Today, we first ask the user to take then open a trace, then we show what can be done with it. What if we could flip that around, where we first ask the user what they are looking for (what analyses they want to run), *then* take a trace with the required events and open it?

The current "automatic" analyses have the notion of requirements, however it is not being used at the moment, it would have to be updated to integrate with the event layouts, among other things. This could be rectified, and added to the on-demand analyses too eventually.

Cheers,
Alex

Thanks,
Martin
