Ah, there you are :). I have the action to respond.
I met with the PTP gang today and Greg in particular. And we talked about this at the last PMC call. I think there are some concerns about a commons project and whether it could be sustainable. And the things we have as candidates, org.eclipse.remote and
the LaunchBar might have better homes in the Target Management project where a community already exists and that really ties all these things together architecturally as well.
The image viewer is a great question. Is there an appropriate home for it? Probably. Does that home wants it? Doesn’t sound like it from the bug. We could create a commons project but is it not really just “stuff the Eclipse project doesn’t want even though
it belongs there”? Not sure what to do about that.
Maybe we need the idea of a light weight project. Something that can be really small with minimal overhead but still meet the requirements for inclusion with simultaneous releases. God, I can create a repo up on github and use bintray to distribute p2
repos and get my work out to the community so much easier than I can through Eclipse. We need to find a way to make that not so true. Maybe that is as simple as getting the Eclipse project to suck it up and let contributions like this in.
Doug.
