Re: [sumo-user] The KraussPS model won't increase bicycle speed beyond the maxSpeed limit on downhills

Thank you for reporting.
This has been fixed in https://github.com/eclipse-sumo/sumo/issues/16805
For more detail on the current behavior, see https://sumo.dlr.de/docs/Simulation/Bicycles.html#speed_limits

Hi all,

I am currently stuck with a problem when using the KraussPS model to simulate bicycle traffic in a hilly area.

When I use the KraussPS model, the speed of cyclists is always capped at either their maxSpeed or desiredMaxSpeed value (these values are for a flat surface, according to the documentation and logic), even though it should be higher on downhills. There are also some weird speed drops or constant values when using different parameters for the maxSpeed or desiredMaxSpeed.

So, I tried replicating the logic of the KraussPS model in Traci (recreated the formulas for acceleration on the slope and further speed calculation) while using the default Krauss model to compare the results. And I found out that the formulas work better in Traci, and the speed on a big downhill is higher than the maxSpeed or desiredMaxSpeed limits. (Although still not as high as it should be based on the real-world experiment data, but that’s another story.)

So, my question is – is there a bug in the KraussPS model, and something is still restricting the speed to cross the limits for the flat surface, even when the surface is not flat?

The speed comparison graph from our simulation is attached, along with the files used for simulating KraussPS and KraussPS replicated in Traci.

Thank you very much.

Cheers,
