Re: [smarthome-dev] Deprecating the Eclipse Forum

From what I take from the discussion in the bugzilla thread its still not clear on whether the foundation will provide an alternative platform. It would be a pity if we start a new "official" place for ESH discussions (or take it to GitHub, which I don´t like for the same reasons Kai gave) and then have the foundation come up with something different. This will definitely confuse people a lot.
My suggestion is to take part in the discussion and have the foundation replace the forum instead of shutting it down completely.

cheers,
henning

All,

I was just caught by surprise by a notification banner on the Eclipse Forum pointing to https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=451571.

While I often complained about the outdated look&feel of the forum and asked for something more modern, I wonder what we consider to be the best option for ESH.
Having the forum shut down means we would need to define another place for user support. Should we shift this all those to Github with a „discussion“ label? It might make the issue tracker even more flooded and difficult to keep an overview.
Stackoverflow isn’t really a valid option as it is moderated by 3rd parties and it is not a place for longer discussions.

What is your opinion here?

Cheers,
Kai
