Mark your calendars: The second half of the year is packed with SDV events!

SDV Newsletter Header

Dear SDV Community,

As we enter a new chapter in the journey of software-defined vehicles (SDVs), our collective efforts are moving from exploration into real-world adoption. The Eclipse SDV community is steadily maturing, and what began as a bold vision is now taking shape in the form of tangible, series-ready software.
This momentum is not only visible within our projects but also across the global automotive industry. Just recently, Europe’s leading car manufacturers reaffirmed their commitment to open source by signing a
Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen collaboration and accelerate innovation across the sector. This is a powerful signal: open technologies are no longer an option but a cornerstone for the future of mobility.
At the same time, our community footprint continues to grow worldwide. With community meetups in Korea and Japan in the second half of 2025 the Eclipse SDV initiative is strengthening its presence in the APAC region, engaging new contributors and partners who share the belief that open collaboration is the fastest path to scalable and sustainable SDV solutions.
All of this demonstrates the evolution of Eclipse SDV from a pioneering initiative into a trusted platform that supports industrial-grade, production-ready software. The progress we are making together reflects a simple truth: by uniting our expertise and resources, we are shaping a common foundation for the vehicles of tomorrow.
We invite you to continue this journey with us – through your contributions, your feedback, and your presence in our growing global community. Together, we are not just imagining the future of mobility; we are building it, piece by piece, line by line, in open source.
Thank you for being part of this movement.

Elena Gantner,

Software-Engineer, Car Development Platform,

Mercedes-Benz Tech Innovation

Featured SDV Committer: Elena Gantner (Eclipse S-CORE)

When and how did you start your career in automotive?

My career in automotive began with my employment at Mercedes-Benz Tech Innovation GmbH in the summer of 2022.

What’s currently the biggest challenge for SDVs?

In my view, the greatest challenge we face in SDV lies in bridging the divide between the traditional world and the modern paradigm of software development.

What has been your #1 benefit of being involved in the Eclipse SDV Working Group?

I believe that engaging with other industry professionals and fostering open dialogue about the challenges we all face today is essential. For me personally, it is also highly rewarding to contribute to what I consider the future of modern automobiles.

What would be your one-sentence pitch to contribute to Eclipse S-CORE?

Why should every company reinvent the fundamental components of car software when we could instead concentrate on delivering greater value to our customers?

How would you describe Eclipse SDV in three hashtags?

#futureofcarsoftware #workingtogether #drivethefuture
