[paho-dev] Paho Project Update

Hello all,

we're moving towards the June date for the Paho 1.3 release, simultaneously with Eclipse Oxygen on Wednesday June 28th.

I'd like to be ready to submit the IP logs towards the middle of May, setting a project review for the for the beginning of June.

At the moment, this is what I am expecting the contents of the release to be:

  • first formal release of mqtt-spy in Paho.  This should be straightforward I think.  Kamil, we don't seem to have an mqtt-spy web page at eclipse.org/paho.  James and I can help you with that.
  • first formal release of Tomoaki's MQTT-SN gateway (and the MQTT-SN embedded client).  The gateway is looking in pretty good shape, and Tomoaki's committer election is underway.
  • first formal release of Frank's C++ client.  Frank has been dealing with some issues and pull requests in the last week.
  • updates/fixes to other clients/applications:
    • C client.  As many outstanding PRs and issues as I can deal with.  Travis and AppVeyor builds are now working, which is a great first step.
    • embedded client updates for both MQTT and MQTT-SN.  Whatever I can fit in.
    • Java/Android - James has been working on a lot of fixes and small functional updates.  May have to move to Java 7 for some of them.  I'll let James talk about that.  There will be new versions, for sure.
    • Python. Pierre has been talking about some breaking changes.  I'll ask the PMC for their opinion on version numbering.  I assume there will be an update to the 1.x branch too?
    • Go.  I assume a service update is in order - I've seen activity to suggest it
    • .Net - there are a number of issues open that is would be good to see responses to.
We may have some MQTT version 5 experiments started, but nothing ready for prime time release by June.  Perhaps later in the year we might have something.

If there is anything else I've forgotten or do not know about, please let me and James know.

Thanks
