Re: [paho-dev] New Android Sample Application

I've just modified the java-dev-nightly build to publish the build APK to the Paho Downloads area now as well, so now you can install the app without having to build it!

Once we get to a version that everyone's happy with, we'll publish it to google play.

Kind regards,

I've put a first pass at a new Android Sample App into develop for everyone to try out.
The aim of rebuilding it was to accomplish what the original Sample app did, but with some better usability and using some of the later Android APIs.

New Features:
  • You can modify saved connections after they have been created.
  • Subscriptions are also saved and automatically re-made when the connection is made.
  • You can now view subscriptions as well as unsubscribe from topics.
Planned features:
  • The Ability to manage notification preferences per subscription / connection. i.e. you might not want notifications from topics that receive messages every second or minute.
  • True TLS / SSL support. Previously you had to provide the sample app with a pre-made Bouncycastle JKS keystore with a set password. This is very fiddly, and so a similar method to OwnTracks should be used. i.e. just supply a certificate.
General To-Do:
  • Lots of things that the Android Linter has picked up, should fix.
  • Lots of strings should be externalised.
  • When we have a stable version that people are happy with, I'm going to publish it to the Android Play store on behalf of Paho. Need to set up Google Play Account etc..

If anyone loves, hates or has any feedback on the app. Drop a note on here, or even use the in built feedback button (Which currently sends an email here anyway!)

Kind regards,
