Re: [paho-dev] MQTT and Eurotech/ESF Eclipse Projects and Code Repository
|
Raymond, thanks for comments and questions.
I've update the project data so that the repositories (still empty)
now show up properly.
I have more work to do on project set
up.

http://git.eclipse.org/c/?ofs=200
I will defer to Dave or Ian for their
thought/plans on testing client testing.

Thank you Dave for encouraging the new project founders
to take action on public dissemination of project information.
I noticed that the git repositories were not actually
included in yours or the previous email. Neither are they listed here (yet):
http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project.php?id=technology.paho
Would it be possible to post those here?
@Scott, I agree that using a different repositories should
be the way to treat the variety of language client implementations. As
most developers will only work with a subset of the clients, it would be
optimal to not force them to get the entire source of all clients.
That being said, would/will there be some form of TCK
for testing conformity between clients (and/or servers) regardless
of the diversity of their implementation? I'd assume as much (or at least
it would be ideal).
Thank you all for getting the ball rolling. I'm quite
excited about this project.
Sincerely,
- Raymond

Good to see the project "getting started" in these concrete ways.
As (one of) your Eclipse mentors I thought I'd remind you this is the
perfect sort of announcement to make on your paho-dev@xxxxxxxxxxx
mailing
list ... so others in the public can see the same progress ... know the
same info, etc.
Of course, you should all (committers and interested parties) subscribe
to
that mailing list, if you are not already.
I would recommend using it for announcing things like meetings, repository
info, ask/answer questions, etc. While email is sometimes needed, at
Eclipse (or any open development project) communication via email is rare,
with most of it taking place on mailing lists, bugzilla entries, etc.
If you are not yet familiar with Eclipse mailing lists, for general
information, see
https://dev.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo
To see info and subscribe to your specific list, you can search that main
page .... but here's the direct link if you want a short cut:
https://dev.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/paho-dev
You must be subscribed to the list to post to it, but you can "read"
it in
several ways ... RSS Feed, webpage, etc. Just now, I looked at the "archive
list" via web page, and see there is already a question there, from
1/16 ... proof of interest! (and, it would be nice to answer such questions
in a little more timely fashion :)
For that "webpage" archive list view, see
http://dev.eclipse.org/mhonarc/lists/paho-dev/
I myself, just now, have subscribed to your list and included it on "to:"
list just to set a good example :) [Normally, you'd not need to CC
individual emails, once you are confident all your committers/participants
subscribe to the list].
Last tidbit, There is a place in the "Foundation Portal"
https://dev.eclipse.org/portal/myfoundation/portal/portal.php
where you (Project Leads) can enter information about your project. (Looks
like you need a lot filled in ... I know, you are just getting started).
Non committers ("the community") can "see" all your
projects data, not from
the portal, but from your "about this project" link,
http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project.php?id=technology.paho
Your list of git repos are one piece of that information that is important.
I'm not sure it is done for literally all Eclipse projects, but I know
that
most (if not all) git repos listed there in the Portal metadata will be
"mirrored" to git-hub ... simply because that is a popular central
hub that
many non-committer users are used to going to, to make their own "forks"
to
experiment with and in some workflows, makes it easier for them to make
contributions back to the project .... topics for the future maybe ...
just
reminding you to fill in the Foundation Portals's metadata (both in
general, and for these repositories).
If I can help in other ways, let me know .... preferably here on the
paho-dev list! :)
Thanks,

follow-up from our call:
- Here is a list of the Paho git repositories. I decided to
create a
separate repository for the MQTT C client and the Java client in addition
to org.eclipse.paho.mqtt. Although they track to the same API and many
changes will affect both streams, it just seemed to me that they
will run
somewhat independently. We can delete later if necessary.
- Ian has C files ready.
- Chad is looking into his committer id and access
- Dave and Ian are going to decide on package naming for Java client and
let us know availability
- Scott to set up regular calls.
