[p2-dev] Shared install improvements, phase 1 released

Late 2012, I was presenting a plan to improve the detection of shared install [1].

 

Today, I’m happy to announce that the “phase 1” highlighted in the previous document is now available in Kepler M5. This allows p2 to notify users that the “base” has changed and that the user’s plugins need to be reinstalled (in the past the user would not know, and p2 state would not match what the user was running). The notification is currently done by a simple dialog (see attachement) that will eventually be replaced by a migration wizard as part of phase 2 targeted for M6.
