Dear Open VSX project members and committers,
I am thrilled to share some wonderful news: Eclipse Open VSX has officially graduated from the Incubation Phase to the Mature Phase of the Eclipse Foundation Development Process! 🎉
This milestone formally recognizes what all of you have built together — an open, transparent, and meritocratic project that has grown from an early-stage contribution by TypeFox into critical infrastructure for the modern developer tooling ecosystem. Today, Open VSX powers extension experiences for millions of developers across AI-native IDEs, cloud development environments, and VS Code-compatible platforms around the world, delivering over 600 million extension downloads per month.
Graduation is not just a process checkbox — it reflects the dedication, craftsmanship, and collaborative spirit that every contributor, committer, and community member has poured into this project over the years. From the foundational work of Miro Spönemann and Jan Bicker, to everyone who has contributed code, reviewed pull requests, managed operations, and helped the ecosystem grow: this achievement belongs to all of you.
Reaching the Mature Phase means the project has demonstrated:
 • A working, high-quality, and demonstrably production-ready codebase (as evidenced by the 1.0.0 release!)
 • An active, diverse, and growing community of contributors, committers, adopters, and users
 • Consistent operation under open, vendor-neutral governance in alignment with Eclipse Foundation principles
 • Faithful IP due diligence and security practices
This is a significant moment — one very much worth celebrating. Graduation signals to the broader ecosystem that Eclipse Open VSX is here to stay, fully committed to open governance, and ready to serve as the vendor-neutral backbone of developer tooling for years to come.
Thank you for everything you contributed to make this possible. The best is yet to come.
