Re: [openvsx-dev] [GSoC 2026] Interest in contributing to Open VSX - Siddharth Baleja

Hi Siddharth,

Thanks for your interest in Open VSX and for already digging into the codebase and related issues.

For more detailed technical discussions and design questions, the #open-vsx-dev channel in the Open VSX Slack workspace is probably the best place to continue the conversation.

Hi Open VSX Team,

My name is Siddharth Baleja, and I am interested in participating in GSoC 2026 with the Eclipse Open VSX project.

I have been exploring the repository and recently commented on Issue #1464 regarding cloud storage content encoding.

Issue Link: https://github.com/eclipse/openvsx/issues/1464

I have already discussed a potential migration strategy with @netomi on GitHub to update existing file metadata in-place across S3, Azure, and GCS. I am very interested in this area and have already begun looking into the storage utility code to understand the implementation.

I wanted to introduce myself here and ask if this issue is considered a priority for the upcoming GSoC cycle. Also, is there a preferred Slack channel where I should discuss the detailed technical design?

I have already signed the Eclipse Contributor Agreement (ECA) and am excited to start contributing.

Best regards, Siddharth Baleja
