[microprofile-wg] MicroProfile Working Group Budget - Next Steps

Dear MicroProfile Steering Committee,

Thanks for your time and discussion on March 16th where I presented the draft MicroProfile Budget. We would like to continue to work on evolving the budget with you and progressing to a final version that you can vote to approve.

My take away from the call was that there are two areas of focus right now, the first is for  allocation of the Discretionary funds to implement the priorities in the approved Program Plan. Since MicroProfile has a Steering Committee with marketing responsibilities, our governance requires that discussions and decisions regarding the Discretionary spend take place in Steering Committee meetings that have a published agenda and published minutes pertaining to these items. The Eclipse Foundation will size the implementation costs where needed and work within the budget. We will look to the Steering Committee to sign off on delivery on matters, if any, that require such input (i.e. where the Foundation isn’t in a position to do so on its own).

The second focus area was the branding and compatibility program which was sized based on patterning it after the Jakarta EE branding and compatibility program. On the call I mentioned that finalizing this sizing was contingent on the Steering Committee including its Specification Committee responsibilities providing input on the scope of the program including the definition of compatibility. Good to see discussions getting underway on the platform specification. There was also an action the Eclipse Foundation took to explain the required elements of the program and call out ones that could be developed collaboratively with the community which are happy to do.  The compatibility program is a priority for the Foundation to ensure we are supporting our obligations related to the brand appropriately, and something we look forward to collaborating with the Steering Committee on.

Thanks ... Paul
