Looking at the error message in the gist [1], it seems that org.glassfish.jaxb:jaxb-core jar is not added to the class realm for some reason. 
Does m2e report any other errors (about unresolved jaxb-core dependency in particular)?

No no. I have JDK7 and 8 installed. Source is compiled with 7, not sure which one Eclipse uses, but Java 8 is on my path and ist he standard VM.
