Re: [m2e-dev] Maven 4 model support in m2e
|
We use Github for issues/discussions so its bet to participate there.
Regarding your topic see for example
https://github.com/eclipse-m2e/m2e-core/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20label%3A%22Maven%204%22
https://github.com/eclipse-m2e/m2e-core/pull/2053
https://github.com/eclipse-m2e/m2e-core/discussions/2010
Bottom line:
We are working on it on best effort basis but it is not a top priority
for any developers (as Maven 3 is "good enough" and widely used) and it
is a non trivial effort. What is currently working is adding Maven 4 as
an external runtime and launch it from the IDE.
So if Maven 4 is important for you, you can try to help with PRs or e.g.
sponsor the work on that.

Hello,
Maven 4 RC6 has been available for a couple of days now, and the Maven 4
GA release seems to be getting close (couple of month ?).
I have already started using it in my projects. In my opinion, it is a
very significant improvement over Maven 3, especially thanks to the
producer POM / consumer POM separation, which eliminates much of the
"flatten POM" complexity.
Some of the new Maven 4 model changes require corresponding support in
m2e, in particular:
*
the new |project.subprojects| element replacing |project.modules|
*
the |root="true"| attribute on the |project| element
These changes affect project discovery and workspace import.
Is there already work planned in m2e to support the Maven 4 project
model? If so, is there an issue or roadmap that I could follow?
If not, I would be happy to test Maven 4 builds with m2e and provide
feedback.
I have read the m2e contribution guide:
https://github.com/eclipse-m2e/m2e-core/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md
<https://github.com/eclipse-m2e/m2e-core/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md>
Is it still up to date, or is there anything else I should know before
getting involved?
Thanks!
