[jnosql-dev] Package and artifact namespace for JNoSQL

Hi,

There’s been a few voices in other projects recently accepted by Eclipse insisting, “eclipse.org” was a “vendor domain” and not a vendor neutral Open Source ecosystem I learned it to be some while ago.

A small number of projects (not counting special working groups or TLPs like PolarSys or LocationTech) possibly even just one (vert.x) uses a package and if applicable artifact naming like “io.vertx”. For languages like Java or Ceylon that know the concept of a “package” (others like Node/_javascript_, Groovy or Rails look like there is no package at all, thus Vert.x really looks special.

JNoSQ as the name suggests won’t aim at Rails, Python or _javascript_ any time soon. Maybe some other JVM languages, but the first target is Java.

Except the jnosql.org domain (http://whois.domaintools.com/jnosql.org does not show the owner behind the GoDaddy Proxy registration, but it is safe to assume it was registered either by Otavio or on his behalf) or Java packages in the current GitHub organization, JNoSQL has never released anything to Maven repositories, etc.

Artifacts in GitHub like https://github.com/JNOSQL/diana-driver/blob/master/pom.xml with version 0.0.1-SNAPSHOT clearly reflect the “Incubating” state and there was no 1.x release of JNoSQL before.

So is a project like this free to stay with a registered domain of its choice like “org.jnosql” or is it supposed to change the namespace to “org.eclipse.jnosql”?

Thanks,

Werner
