Re: [jaxrs-dev] The role of the assignee field in Github

Hey all,

I actually think that using the assignee field is a good thing. Managing a large number of issues/PRs works better if they have some kind of "person in charge". This could be for example someone most familiar with the specific part of the API or someone especially interested in this issue/PR. As Markus suggested this person could drive the discussion and eventually close/merge the PR or issue. So +1 for this idea.

Santiago,

I just wanted to ask in general if we want to use this field or not, because I just used it, but we had no discussion about this before.

Hi Markus,

I was in the process of cleaning up the branches as we agreed, and wanted to push those PR’s with enough votes.

However, in general, I don’t mind if a different committer pushes a PR with enough votes according to our rules.

Hello Committers,

as recently one of the PRs assigned to me was merged by a different commiter, I would like to suggest that we agree on respecting the assignee field of Github.

In Github it serves for being an organizational tool which committer actively manages an issue or a PR, i. e. who drives the discussion, who checks for IP and formal issues, and who finally will do the merge. So no two committers will do the same background work etc.

What do you think?
