This sounds quite odd, as there are always reasons to change vendors,
whether one goes bankrupt, changes its pricing and license policy, or
say you had a document-based solution using XML and you want to replace
it with something based on JSON like MongoDB.

If you don't have some sort of abstraction, you may be forced to write
everything from scratch.
