Past business / action items:

  • Approval is requested for the minutes from the December 13th, 2023 meeting as drafted - Approved.

Agenda:

See the spreadsheet for updates.

  • Catch up on the Jakarta EE 11 Release Plan

    • A situation has arisen regarding support for Java 21 and Java 17 for certain specifications, this could impact the release plan, it is currently being worked within the Platform Project

    • Background:

    • In EE 10 we compiled on Java 11 and 17, we ratified on 11 and tested 17 dependent elements on 17, given this precedence could be applied to EE 11

    • Proposal: Compile against 17, run on 21, and test on 17 and 21

    • Consideration: Glassfish has gone to 21 and could be used to ratify, need another implementation for 17. Could deliver Java 21 in a Jakarta EE 11 release and Java 17 in Jakarta EE 11.1 where just the Platform and Profile TCKs are run. EE 9 and 9.1 took that approach

      • Vendors would be able to certify on Java 21 for Jakarta EE 11

      • Vendors would be able to certify on Java 17 OR Java 21 for Jakarta EE 11.1

NOTE: This topic was a discussion to explore ideas and possibilities, it is not to be considered as direction. This topic is owned and will continue to be pursued in the Platform Project.

  • Jakarta Faces proposal for version change for EE 11 from 5.0 to 4.1, see Arajn’s email [Mon, Dec 11, 5:43 AM PT]

    • [Ivar] According to Arjan in Yesterday’s Platform call the proposed 4.1 content will be the same as planned for 5.0, but without the backward incompatible changes

    • Actions:

      • Request that the 5.0 entry on the Jakarta Faces specification page be updated to insert at the top the revised content for EE 11 and note that the release designation is now 4.1. The original content of the page that was present at Plan Review remains as it was.

      • Request that in the Release Review for Jakarta Faces 4.1 a note also be added to explain (bridge) to the original Plan Review which was designated 5.0 for a record of this change.

      • Use a client side redirect to make it so https://jakarta.ee/specifications/faces/5.0/ redirects to https://jakarta.ee/specifications/faces/4.1/

      • No ballot is required.

[01/10] Note that Rename Faces 5.0 to 4.1 PR was merged, and was noted in the tracking spreadsheet
