[jakarta.ee-spec.committee] Use of Duke based logos

The BV spec has a Java Duke logo derived from the BSD licensed image, and is attached. Bill pointed to this CQ and indicated that this could not be used in the spec:

The CQ points to this PMC thread started by Wayne:

I was not on the PMC list when that started, so I was not aware of this conversation. I will say that I don’t agree with the premise laid out by Wayne in that thread. When I mentioned to Gunnar that the usage of this logo was questioned, he was very upset about having to remove it as he felt it was a community image that they have used for a long time, and they would not be happy to see its use precluded.

I don’t see how this is fundamentally different than referring to a dependency on the Java SE, which is also trademarked by Oracle. Oracle’s own Duke, the Java Mascot page:

Refers to the “Project Duke” at OpenJDK, which is the repository of BSD licensed variations of the Duke logos. What is the real issue that needs to be addressed here?
