Hi Benjamin,
if we aimed for the 'top 10 programming languages', then a recent
article using Github data is here:
http://uk.businessinsider.com/the-9-most-popular-programming-languages-according-to-the-facebook-for-programmers-2017-10
With the addition of Ruby, we're covering more of the top 10,
only PHP and CSS (!) missing. And on PHP I like this quote from
the article:
"PHP isn't so much a language as a
random collection of arbitrary stuff, a virtual explosion at
the keyword and function factory," Stack Overflow founder Jeff
Atwood once wrote.
I have thought about PHP in the past, but it can also link to C
libraries, and no-one else has ever brought it up.
Frank has a Rust client on the go (a layer above the C client,
like the C++ client).
I assume that Scala can use the Java and/or _javascript_ clients.
It seems a shame about the Apple ecosystem, but Apple T&Cs
have bitten us in the past. Having said that, the C/C++ clients
work fine on MacOS, and I had the C client running on iOS years
ago, where I assume it still does (although it would be nice to
check).
I think that our main focus should be to ensure focus and
maintain the existing client libraries, until they're finished
:-) That's only partly in jest - I did think that we would run
out of enhancements for MQTT clients at some point, I certainly
wouldn't mind that. But that hasn't happened yet!

Hi James,
Thanks for sharing the news! This is pretty cool to
see that this finally made it to Eclipse Paho. Now one wonders
what programming language you guys will be targeting next? :-)
Benjamin -
Hi All,
I'm very happy to announce that
the contribution process for the Ruby MQTT Client
developed by Ruby Development Inc. to the Eclipse
Foundation is now complete! The repository is now
available here:
https://github.com/eclipse/paho.mqtt.ruby
I have also kicked off a
committer nomination for the primary developer Pierre
who has driven the development of this client over the
past few years, so that he may continue to support the
client now that it is part the Paho Project.
Thank you to all the committers
who have worked on the Ruby client over the years, I
look forward to seeing the new Paho Ruby community
grow even more in the coming years!
Kind regards,
James Sutton
