Re: [iot-pmc] Approval required for Kura 2.0 release

I would ping Kai and Julien to vote as well so we don't need to wait for the vote to time out.

+1, thanks!

+1 from me then. Thanks for answering my questions ;-)

Beside that, you are right that most projects don't follow the trademark rules. However that is why EMO/Wayne wanted to enforce this in release reviews. So in the end it is his decision.

Thanks for your patience

Benjamin/Jens,

We have worked through several of the remaining issues and hope to close the last of the larger scope items tomorrow (CET) [1][2]. We will then create a release candidate and continue to close the remaining, smaller issues.  We will likely not officially release Kura 2.0 (i.e. have binaries ready for download) for another 7-10 days after the review, as this will give us more time for closing smaller issues, testing, etc. I was told this would be okay as long as we aren’t adding new libraries or making major code changes.

Regarding the other items in the below list:

* The release is 2.0.0 but marked as "Minor", is that really the case?
Yes. While there are some API level changes, we aren’t breaking compatibility with Kura 1.x. The reason for increasing from 1 to 2 is to distinguish between the previously EPL incompatible web UI and the new EPL compatible web UI.

* Compatibility states "with previous 3.x releases of Eclipse Kura", however there is no "3.x" release, only 1.x releases can be found
Complete typo on my part, I have corrected this.

*  A lot of web page do miss the proper trademarks we discussed in one of the last IoT calls (e.g. [2], [3]) As far as I understood Wayne in the call, this is mandatory for passing a release now
I have an updated website that I hope to have in a staging area soon. I will send a note to the mailing list to receive feedback. If necessary, I can make the branding changes to the current website as well. Out of curiosity, have any of the IoT WG projects come into alignment on this? I haven’t seen any that I can use for reference. I will reach out to Ian/Benjamin separately for new Eclipse Kura logos with the appropriate branding.

We are on a tight schedule for the rest of the year, so it would be great if we could keep the review as scheduled. If it has to be re-scheduled, hopefully we can get a date in the near future.

Thanks,
--Dave

Hi,

I do see it a bit like Benjamin:

 * The release review period is over, still there are lots of issues still open
 * I would also like to see at least one milestone/RC download as well. Looking at the downloads page [1] or the PMI I can't fine one. Maybe I am looking at the wrong spot.

So for a project which is not in incubation anymore, it doesn't look "ready" to me.

Sorry for being that finicky ...

Hi there,

Congratulations to the Kura team on giving more visibility to the project’s backlog. This makes a huge difference, and gives everyone an opportunity to get more involved. Also, congratulations on all the new pretty awesome features J

I actually have two quick comments/questions before giving my +1:

·         There seems to be many issues still opened against 2.0 in the bug tracker [1]. Are you confident you can deliver all those for your release next week, or should some be descoped?

·         I would highly encourage you guys to produce a “Release Candidate“ build and promote it in your community so people can get a chance to test Kura on some devices that are maybe not part of your typical QA, etc. I do not think that many people are using Kura “nightly” so it’d be safer to make sure you have some last minute testers IMO. Ideally you get this build out by the end of this week and announce it on the Kura mailing list?

Thanks,

Benjamin –
