I’ll do a pretty long write up when I get a chance. Been busy on non-Eclipse business the last few weeks but will get back to things in July.
Basically, the current new Project Wizard is really old and not very welcoming and doesn’t really help guide the new user. Xcode and Visual Studio do a much better job of that and we need to catch up.
The other aspect of it is to offer the ability to create new projects for plug-ins you don’t have installed yet. Visual Studio calls these on-line templates. I imagine we’d incorporate something from the Eclipse Marketplace to populate the information
in the wizard. It would be nice to create a new Android project which would then go off and install the Andmore plug-ins for me and then finish creating the project. That, of course, would require plug-ins to install without forcing a restart of the IDE. Which
is probably another area we need to tackle.
More later, but interested in people thoughts on the new project experience and ways to improve it for new users (and existing ones for that matter).
Doug.
What is behind the new Project Wizards?
Best regards, Lars

LOL, yes. It’s probably a good thing we’re running without a product manager ;).
BTW, we’ve made some great strides on the UX front with Mars. And we have some good things planned for Neon, like project import auto discovery. I have a couple more I’ll be proposing in the next few weeks with the New Project wizard and adding IU requirements
to projects so that we can install the plug-ins that projects need when they are created or brought into a workspace. I think Michael Scharf has mentioned that a few times.
I’ve received great feedback on the LaunchBar and our Remote TM work and the Console Command Shell. We need to consider how we’d introduce them into the IDE packages. My biggest fear is introducing something major to the community without proper education
on how to use it. And that points back to the Eclipse IDE web site, or probably an improved help system/welcome page.
Lots to do, but we have momentum and I think we can all be proud of that.
Doug
Sorry folks, but I just couldn't resist :)
