IMO, this survey confirms that enabling all warnings by default wouldn't hurt the majority of users.

That is just not true - you cannot deduce this from that survey. The questiona about the compiler warnings was biased, not possible to answer yes/no to
and my bet is none if very few actually tried to enable all the warnings.

What the survey does show is that many people are interested in getting warnings shown
if there are something possibly wrong - but i'm also sure just as many don't want to get
unnecessary warnings (like for years eclipse default warning about serialization version is needed
even though it is not and if you use the quickfix it will generate code that is just as broken
as if you did not have it).

Thus I think as Ian says - it shows it would be good to review which warnings are on/off by default
since it is a good tool.
