Re: [geomesa-users] Cloudera CDP compatibility

Hi Raymond, others,

I'll echo Emilio here and add some more context.  Various vendors and ecosystems like AWS, Cloudera, and others, provide multiple versions of the Apache projects that GeoMesa generally works and they do so in any varied configurations.

While no project can test all the possible configurations, we do our best to test compatibility with the general Apache versions of the software and document generally what one needs to do to build up a correct deployment.  If folks are interested in testing specific configurations around a release, I'd be more than happy to help support that.

Presently, Emilio and I are working towards a 3.2.0 release, so this week is a great time to have these discussions.  Gitter is a great place to iterate quickly on some of these issues.  https://gitter.im/locationtech/geomesa

As a silver lining, classpath issues are pretty common since there are a few standard things which go wrong.  Basically, if you share errors, we have probably seen something similar:).

Cheers,

Jim

Hello,

Looking at the versions in CDP 7.1.4, everything seems like it should be compatible, assuming you're using a fairly recent version of GeoMesa. However Cloudera sometimes changes public APIs (e.g. the HBase API), which can cause things to break. I'm not aware of anything like that presently, but it's something to keep in mind. If you have more specific errors, we can help you track them down. And please report back if you get it working or not!

Thanks,

Emilio

Hello,

I've been trying to run the hbase quickstart and tutorials against Cloudera CDP (Cloudera 7.1.4, Hadoop 3.1.1, HBase 2.2.3) following the instructions on the site, however I have stumbled with many missing classes and diverse errors. Before attempting any further I was wondering if any of you here has tried this setup, or if a priori you can tell it wont work.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!!
Regards,
Ray
