=====
  • Return on the Edge AI discussion
    Representatives from ADLINK, Edgeworx and Bosch met with Adam Gibson from Konduit to discuss Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) requirements in the context of Edge Computing. This conversation has been recorded (Password: 4m?R3295).

    Konduit just joined Eclipse IoT, and is interested in joining Edge Native as well.

  • Relative positioning with LF Edge - especially Horizon & Eve?
    Robert Andres stated that it is essential for this working group to have a clear positioning relative to LF Edge. Many others agreed.

    Frédéric Desbiens offered his own take on the topic. He highlighted that, although some level of competition exists and is inevitable, the Eclipse Foundation (EF) and the Linux Foundation (LF) collaborate often. In fact, the LF and EF are members of each other. The EF is also a member of the CNCF and the Zephyr project. The LF is a member of Eclipse IoT. LF Edge is an umbrella. Some of the projects inside this umbrella could become touchpoints between the EF and LF.

    • EdgeX Foundry — A set of IoT-oriented microservices that could be run on Eclipse ioFog or Eclipse fog05 infrastructure

    • Akraino — Is a blueprint library. It was mentioned that some emerging blueprints include Eclipse components such as Eclipse Hono

    • Horizon — Has been productized by IBM, among others. There seems to be an overlap with Eclipse hawkBit, although we are not sure of its size.

    • Eve — We are not sure whether this overlaps with what we have or not.

Frédéric suggested revisiting the topic at the next working group meeting. Robert Andres will give a short presentation about Horizon, since Eurotech is familiar with the open source version and related IBM commercial offering. Frédéric or others will cover Eve.
