[eclipsecon-na-program-committee] Next Meeting - October 9

I had blindly assumed we would meet every second Monday, but that would put our next call on October 8. That is a national holiday in Canada, and with four PC members from Canada I think it is best to make it Tuesday October 9th. I have sent a calendar invite to the list, but in case that doesn't work for anyone, here are the details:

Tuesday, October 9 - 11:00 PT / 14:00 ET / 20:00 CET

Call in numbers are here: https://www.eclipsecon.org/wiki/2013_Program_Committee

In case anyone has trouble with wiki access, I am pasting it below as well.

The main topic of discussion will be keynote speakers again. If we have time I would also like to talk about BoFs and how we can encourage/improve other informal gatherings.

Two weeks after October 9 puts us during the week of EclipseCon Europe. I assume this won't work for many of us who are attending ECE. I will pencil in October 29th as our next call, but we could meeting October 15th as well (or instead) if there is pressing business.

John

Re: [eclipsecon-na-program-committee] Keynote Update

How about we go through the suggestions on the next PC call. I think Pattie Maes and Luis Von Ahn look really interesting. We do indeed of two keynotes left to fill.

John, would you also mind sending out a reminder of when the next call will be?

Thanks
Ian

Re: [eclipsecon-na-program-committee] Keynote Update

Jeff knows the EclipseCon audience pretty well, if he has ideas about someone who would be a great speaker of interest to our audience, I would be curious to know about it. But I agree if it's not someone we know or have public examples to look at, we should look at other options too. In a similar vein there is also Kevin's suggestion of Ariel Waldman.

I didn't hear much comment on my suggestion of Luis Von Ahn (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luis_von_Ahn). Any thoughts on that one from anyone? I think his subject area of expertise would be interesting to an open source audience.

Another name suggested to me is Pattie Maes from MIT (
http://web.media.mit.edu/~pattie/). There is no Eclipse connection here but it could be a cool talk about something completely different that would get people talking.

So in short summary we have filled one slot and need two more right?

[eclipsecon-na-program-committee] Keynote Update

Good news and bad news about the keynotes.

1.       Good news: github and twitter has both agreed to each do 30 minute keynote presentations.
2.       Bad news: Jeff Norris had to declined due to scheduling issues. He was honoured to be asked but didn’t have the time. He volunteered to find someone else in NASA to speak. My inclination is the we invited Jeff since he was so awesome the last time. I don’t think it is really worth have just another NASA speaker. Thoughts/comments?
