Re: [eclipsecon-na-program-committee] FW: feedback on rejected talks for EclipseCon 2012

John,

There are really good and I think useful responses.

I would add for http://www.eclipsecon.org/2012/sessions/agile-and-collaborative-development-mobile-apps the following:

We try to avoid submissions that focused on product demos.  This submissions was seemed to be more focused on demoing Rational Team Concert.

This was a good proposal and just barely missed the cut off. There was also a desire on the PC to cut down on "What's new" talks because they are often not exciting and people can get similar information from other sources such as New & Noteworthy. Also because Java 7 is no longer new, and Java 8 is still far off, there won't be as much buzz about Java as last year. This will likely be a hotter topic again in 2013.

We could only accept a very small number of tutorials this year (10) and again this barely didn't make it. Out of the declined tutorials it had the second highest ranking, so if we had a couple more tutorial slots it probably would have made it. One down-side is that this is quite an advanced topic, because not a lot of people need to extend JDT, and ObjectTeams customization is even more specialized. By contrast the CDT submitted a more introductory "hands on with CDT" tutorial this is very popular with a wide audience. Tutorials generally work better for an introductory audience, so that is something to consider for future years.

This was in Agile/ALM, so no comment.

This had a fairly high rating, but there was another submission that was very similar. To avoid duplication we only accepted one of them (http://www.eclipsecon.org/2012/sessions/options-developing-cross-platform-mobile-applications-eclipse).
