Dear Planning Council Members

The Eclipse top-level PMC agreed that we should respin Oxygen 1a RC2 to provide a fix for the broken Xtext code (see details below).

The Eclipse top-level project hereby officially asks the Planning Council to cast their vote on a respin.

Please cast your vote asap. The fixes are ready on our side.

+1

Thanks!
Dani

+1 for a respin with the 3 fixes in question.

Lars, Martin

Can you also cast your vote?

In addition to the two mentioned bugs we would also provide a fix for:
Bug 525583: 'Nested' Eclipse Application Launch configuration fails to launch on Java 9 and Eclipse 4.7.1a

I agree with Alex's assessment of the perils of using internals. Given the seriousness of this problem, I would suggest we do a respin anyway, and would argue we should fix the internal signature at the same time. In return, the XText team should commit to getting off the use of that method asap, with our help to add missing (actual) API as needed.

"Daniel Megert" ---2017/10/06 08:42:19---In case of a respin we would definitely include that fix. Dani

While we're on the subject of respinning RC2, JDT has a critical bug[1] that prevents any project with multiple output folders (Maven, Gradle) from running any class (be it main or test) from the IDE, with Java 9.
A simple fix[2] was committed yesterday in master, I strongly believe this should be backported to Oxygen.1a, given that, most likely, all new greenfield Java 9 projects will use a build tool affected by that bug.

While the "practical me" would say "Yes, if JDT team feels comfortable
with that", I'm leaning towards -1 for this one because it practically
means treating internals as API thus encouraging people to use them
directly instead of working close with projects they depend on to make
APIs stronger and more feature full.
I would +1 a case where the method is bringed back in Oxygen only for
the sake of preserving some compatibility.
