Greetings Planning Council.
The Buildship project, which provides Eclipse integration with
Gradle, has been provisioned and has started the process of engaging
with the IP team. Assuming that they make it through the IP process,
I'd like for them to be included in the Mars release.
I believe very strongly that having great Gradle support is a key
ingredient in maintaining relevance in the Java development
community and so is a critical factor in our continuing success in
that space.
One possible wrinkle with their inclusion (aside from the obvious
timing concerns) is that they use Guava 18 and--AFAICT--the Mars
repository currently contains version 15 (and 12 which is a little
curious). I've noticed that m2e has a piggyback on version 18 as
well. I'll investigate further.
With this note, I'm giving you a "heads up" that this is coming and
plan on formally asking for the exception when the project has
progressed to the point of hosting builds on Eclipse infrastructure.
I've discussed this with Doug, the council's representative from the
Tools PMC. He is in agreement.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns (including the
obvious).
