looks odd too, some of the bios are in italic gray, one
of them is the same as the body text.

That is correct. The idea was to show all the presenters in a column so that as many pictures as possible would be "above the fold" when someone looks at the page. Is there consensus that we should do something else?

Maybe there is something wrong with my own bio text that
is causing this?

Yes, there was :-) but it was really a bug in the underlying display routine, so I fixed the display routine instead.
