All,
Two things: Cancellations and BOFs
Cancellations
We have had a few people that have decided to cancel their talks. When
this happens, this is probably the best procedure.
a) Add notes to the talks in comments section acknowledging that the
talk has been canceled at the authors request.
b) Change the status to Tentative Decline
c.1) Find a replacement talk of equal time and change status to
Tentative Accept.
OR
c.2) Change the times of other curated talks to fill the time vacated
by the cancellation.
d) Let me know what you have done, I will push the appropriate
combinations of Big Buttons, Little Buttons and prayers that will make
things whirl around until the system is updated.
I will see the status changes if you modify the accept/decline on any
talks, but will wait to hear word from you before I accept those
changes.
BOFs
Wayne has volunteered to coordinate the BOFs for this years
conference. He would like to try some new options that will make the
BOFs more user focused this year, so there will be a few changes. I
don't think that Wayne is quite ready to announce how the system will
work. Look for an announcement by the end of the month in terms of
setting up the BOFs.

Hi Scott,
One of the TPTP curated talk speaker
is considering to withdraw its presentation. What is the process to
remove
the talk and replace with a new talk at this point? Please advise.
Also as a side question, do you know
when is the system opened for BOF submission?
Thanks a lot for your time.

EC 2009 660: Writing
Eclipse plugins
for security auditing and testing |
|
Hi Eugene,
I have some problems with my talk at EclipseCon, I wanted
to present the PolicyGenerator plugin I wrote. Unfortunately
I discovered that there is a patent application from IBM
in this area.
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/y2006/0288401.html
Presenting my talk at the conference would show that
this patent is inventing something obvious and prior art existed before
the patent application was filed, because I refer to
my jChains tool, already presented in several articles, such
as D-A-CH 2004. jChains is able to do just what the patent application
tries to invent, but is not limited to eclipse only. Moreover;
in its new version it is able to derive also the risk factor
of a granting a specific security policy.
Currently I think it is the best to withdraw this talk proposal and
defer it to a future eclipsecon when we know for sure how this patent
application develops.
Cheers
Marc
