For the record, I didn't intend that
picture of myself to be posted, but it was my own fault for not supplying
one.  I just didn't happen to have a suitable photo on hand.  I've
already made arragements with a photographer to get a proper headshot done
next week.  While my intention is for it to not be a boring corporate
style, I'll admit I hadn't considered cross dressing, wrestling make up,
or bear suits.  Well, there's still time.

And yes that's my real hair (and I understand why its made some of you
jealous): the shot is on a windy catamaran trip in San Francisco bay.

My personal opinion is it would be an
unfortunate editorial choice on our part to influence the pictures provided.
 Hey, we're an open source group, and that should bring with it a
certain acceptance of differences.  We should respect the speaker's
choices and while non conventional, I don't see anything in poor taste,
which should be our only criteria.  Actually poor Tim Wagner looks
now the most boring of us all!

PS. I'm guessing that global and corporate
financial situations are going to the big influence on attendance, not
keynote speaker photos.

I like the idea of the pairings.  The duality of the personalities,
their positions, and the photos makes complete sense in the context of
the keynotes.  I would hope that most managers would look past the
silliness to the message they are sending.

As for the cultural issues raised by Neil...  well, it's a mine field.
But if someone wants to start the debate, I will be happy to chime in.

Thanks for the feedback on the quality of the speakers.

In terms of the speaker pictures: I am still waiting on Kevin's official
publicity mugshot, once you see Kevin dressed up as a dancing bear I
think it will all make sense.

Okay, so much for my lame sense of humor.

Don MacAskill's company smugmug had a makeup artist come in and do
photos of the entire staff in super-hero makeup.  When seen in the
context of their web site, it makes sense and is actually quite
compelling for a photo sharing company. 
When I asked Don directly, he assured me that this is the photo that he
would like to use.  I don't feel comfortable going back and asking
him
to re-consider.

Imagine my surprise when Jeff Atwood sent in his picture and he was
dressed up like a Dee Snyder wanna be.  I think this may be a result
of
Jeff being swamped with his new web site and a baby on the way.  Of
course it could be that he just is not into the whole publicity photo
thing.

My feeling is that we should try and embrace the fact that these
keynotes are a little different.  I am just trying to figure out how
we
can use the speakers photos as a way to highlight that.  Perhaps a
hover
over effect where we swap the images between the speakers?  I am open
to
ideas.

If the rest of the PC (copied) feel that it would be more appropriate
for a more conventional photo from Jeff, I am happy to make the request.
I am also happy to lose the pictures completely, or make them smaller.

So a +1 if you want me to approach Jeff about changing his picture.  If
you have a different idea
