Just gave it a try:

checking out the repo and using
Apache Maven 3.0.4 (r1232337; 2012-01-17 09:44:56+0100)

works out of the box on the command line on my linux 64bit machine.

I also worked on the tutorial page:

... needs some formatting, but the content is there :)
