| [ecf-dev] Luna final daze, OSGi R6 and ECF 3.9.0 |
Hi Folks,
Next wed (6/25/2014) is the Luna release date. For the ECF 3.8.1/Luna
release I've prepared an updated download page, and an updated New and
Noteworthy page, and on 6/25/2014 am I will move those pages over to be
active and change the 'latest' release content to point to ECF 3.8.1.
There are some changes that must be done by hand (e.g. the Apache Karaf
features), if you are able/willing to help with this please join bugs [2].
I've completed the work on the OSGi *R6* RS/RSA implementation on the
rfc1.1 branch [1]. What I'm planning to do is merge the rfc1.1 branch
onto master *immediately after* the Wed am release (probably Wed
afternoon pacific time). I don't anticipate that the merge will
actually take very long, as I've been merging master->rfc1.1 frequently
over the past few months. However, it's possible that this merge will
introduce problems into the ECF Jenkins builder projects, and so I would
expect the fixes to these to take several days. During this time,
nightly builds and continuous integration builds may not be available
for download.
Markus K and I are working on using/testing against the OSGi R6 CT
(compatibility test suite) with the intention of having our builder
automatically run the R6 CT suite as part of our automated build...as
soon as we can do the associated releng.
My desire is to release (as ECF 3.9.0) the OSGi R6 support along with
any bug fixes that can be made after Luna release. My current target
for this release is late July or early August. We can't really settle
on a final date yet for 3.9.0, as it would be unwise to release until
the OSGi R6 RS/RSA specification is finalized, and that has not happened
yet. Further, I don't know exactly when that will happen. So we will
have to leave the 3.9.0 target date uncertain for the time being. I
will update as soon as I know more from the EEG (OSGi enterprise experts
group).
If you have any questions, about Luna final daze, OSGi R6
support/reference implementation work, and/or ECF 3.9.0 planning, please
just say so.
Thanks,
Scott
