| [ecf-dev] ECF 3.5 final days |
Hi Folks,
First...on a personal note...I urge everyone to contribute in whatever
way you can to the recovery for the devastating earthquake and tsunami
in Japan today.
As discussed previously, now that the ECF 3.5 review is complete and
approved, we will release ECF 3.5 on 3/14/2011...hopefully by the
morning GMT. This means that I will likely be doing the final release
build on *Sunday* (pacific time)...I expect around ~7pm GMT.
Between now and then:
a) This is a 'last call' for any bug fixes and/or
enhancements/additional contributions. All of the bugs/enhancements
targeted for 3.5 release have been addressed, as you can see here [1].
From now until Monday, please do not make any change to the source code
except for a) documentation (javadocs), or b) new/critical/'stop ship'
problems (please open new bugs immediately if such new problems are found).
b) Please do some install testing if you can...on either/both of Eclipse
3.6/3.7 streams, as well as Felix (if you can). If you find stop-ship
problems, please immediately report them with a new critical bug
describing the problem. You can get the latest release build for
testing here [2] or [3].
c) Please read and review the ECF 3.5 New and Noteworthy [4]. This was
contributed by Sebastian (thanks again Sebastian), Harshana Eranga
Martin, and myself. If there are problems, omissions, edits needed,
etc., please bring up immediately on this mailing list.
d) Please consider supporting the promotion of ECF's 3.5 release by
blogging or whatever means you have available to you. I will probably
blog on ECF 3.5 on Monday...to correspond with the release. If you do
blog about ECF 3.5, please let me know and I'll add a link to your blog
on the ECF homepage.
e) Please continue contributing to the ECF Documentation project
[5]...both before and/or after the ECF 3.5 release. As ECF 3.5 is
released the ECF documentation will get more and more traffic
(especially with EclipseCon coming up), and so any ongoing/additional
work on the ECF documentation will be of great help.
Thanks again to everyone for contributing to ECF's 3.5 release...e.g.
committers, contributors, consumers, and other community members. I
think this is a fantastic release for the community...with new standards
support (RSA), new features (e.g. xmlrcp provider), improved
documentation, ECF community expansion efforts (e.g. support for Felix
and other OSGi frameworks), and improvements to the build
infrastructure...all of which benefit the community tremendously.
Scott
