Re: [ecf-dev] Remote Eclipse RCP Management

Hi Scott,

thanks for your help again!

First thing that needs to be done is to create a new feature(s) project(s) with the relevant additional plugins.  Have you already done this?  It can/probably should go to CVS repo at cvs1.osuosl.org if it isn't already there.

I've checked the client feature in although the feature's update site has to be changed as I didn't know it yet. I haven't created one for the admin tool yet.

Eugen, are you thinking of contributing this work to ECF under the EPL?  If so, we can/could start the IP process involved in such a contribution...after the committers have looked at it and approved...and then we could potentially have it be part of ECF proper (i.e.

Yes I think EPL should do it.

...after the committers have looked at it and approved...and then we could potentially have it be part of ECF proper (i.e. distributed via dev.eclipse.org).  You are not under any obligation to do so, but it might make a nice contribution.  I would like the ECF committers to use/examine the work, however, just to get familiar with it.  Eugen could you describe (or point to) how to run/try it out, and describe where in the plugins is the most central work? (If there is more/other than http://wiki.eclipse.org/Remote_Eclipse_RCP_Management).

I would be really glad and appreciate it if some ECF devs could have a look at the ECF specific code as I have a lot of headache here. The main bundle with ECF code is the "org.remotercp.ecf" and the most important class is the org.remotercp.ecf.session.SessionServiceImpl.  (CVS access data are available on this website https://wiki.eclipse.org/Remote_Eclipse_RCP_Management) I have added some comments to those parts which have confused me the most and where I had the most problems with.

I will now go on and update the wiki site with a detailed how-to for launching the client and admin tool. So if anyone would have a look at the code I would postpone the update site creation for now and wait for feedback first.

Regards,
Eugen

Hi Scott,

I have developed now a prototype of the above mentioned tool and would like now to create an update site where the client feature and the admin tool can be downloaded. Do you thing it is possible to use the ECF server for this?

Yes, I expect so.   We can/could easily use the OSUOSL server (ecf1.osuosl.org) at our my/own discretion.  We can/could add a new feature to the set of features currently being built at OSUOSL (yahoo provider, skype provider, jms provider, and jgroups provider).

Thanksinadvance!  And thanks kindly for your contribution...this is a very exciting area...and I expect there will be much more work in this area over the next year.

Scott
