Meeting Logistics
Due to travel schedules, there was no BIRT PMC meeting last week.
BIRT 2.1 RC2
BIRT 2.1 RC2 was released to the community last week. Please review, test and provide feedback via Bugzilla.
Upcoming BIRT 2.1 releases continue to track with the Callisto schedule.
New Committers
The following new committers have been proposed and recommended to the BIRT PMC by the BIRT project teams. Following the process laid out in the BIRT project charter, the development team has asked for a vote from the existing committers on each of these nominations and have received at least 3 positive votes and no negative votes. In each case, these individuals have already been active in the BIRT project community. The nominations are:
Xiaoying Gu: Xiaoying has been active in the BIRT community for the last 3 months working on QA and testing activities. In the last month, Xiaoying has also been working with Sue Lee on build activities including build scripts, smoke tests and build notifications. You may have noticed that recent build notifications have been coming from Xiaoying.
The PMC unanimously approves these new Committers for the project. Welcome on board!
MySQL User Conference
Members of the BIRT team participated in the MySQL User Conference in Santa Clara last week. Krishna Venkatraman presented an introduction to BIRT, and Scott Rosenbaum gave a more advanced talk. Both talks were well attended, with the MySQL community showing a lot of interest in the Eclipse BIRT project.
Actuate sponsored a booth in the Exhibit hall that included BIRT, and this was also well attended. In addition, the bookstore at the event included advanced reader copies of the two new BIRT books from Addison Wesley. (FYI: You can pre-order copies of these books at Amazon.com or your favorite retailer -- just search for "BIRT").
