Re: [asciidoc-wg] AsciiDoc Tooling Overview / Awesome list

Alexander,

I do like the idea of an awesome list, and I'm excited to see where it goes. I think it's a great way to promote the tools in the AsciiDoc ecosystem (beyond just compliant implementations) and to help users find and evaluate them. Thus, it's something that's needed in one form or another.

However, I want to clarify that this wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I proposed the tooling committee / interest group for AsciiDoc, so I don't want that original idea to get overlooked. What I envision for the tooling committee is for interested parties to work out commonalities in tooling so that the creators don't each have to redesign and reimplement each capability. It's also to ensure the behavior is consistent across different environments so users' knowledge is portable.

In other words, the committee / interest group is a forum for discussing, agreeing on, and possibly even standardizing behavior, protocols, and shared functions for developing tooling. Defining a language is a vital part of our mission. But the story is not complete without good tooling. And this proposed group can help guide us, as a community, towards that outcome. Though, the awesome list is perhaps part of promoting those tools as well.

Best Regards,

-Dan
