Re: [wtp-pmc] [libra-dev] CQ Started for OSGi Runtime Launchers contribution

Hi Glyn,

Thank you for the care. I copy the WTP PMC mailing list in Cc, so if I am wrong in any of my words below, then other PMC members can correct me.

IMHO, it is up to the respective PMC to decide how to deal with PMC approvals of CQs. Established practices might vary in the different PMCs. So, the practices you have in the RT PMC are not necessarily the same we have in the WTP PMC.

In the WTP PMC we typically discuss upfront any expected contributions and nobody is surprised when the CQ comes for approval. In this particular case, the Libra project proposal has been widely discuss in the WTP PMC for weeks. The Eteration initial contribution (CQ 5007) was in the scope of the project proposal from the very beginning and this CQ was really expected to come.

With respect to the above, it does not really matter who from the WTP PMC approves the CQ. Asking other PMC members to hit the button is just unnecessary over processing of the so long IP review process. However, notifications for CQs, that are waiting for PMC approval, are sent to the WTP PMC mailing list, so any of the PMC members is aware of these CQs. The long IP review process gives enough time for reaction of the other PMC members to object if they feel that the CQ was not enough discussed with them.

And one thing confuses me… You are asking me to ask the RT PMC for approval for this CQ? Why is this necessary? The Libra project belongs to the WTP top-level project. I don’t believe there is a need to ask the RT PMC for approval.

Greetings,

Kaloyan

Hi Kaloyan

I absolutely support this CQ, but I don't think it looks too good for you to provide PMC approval. PMC members approving CQs from their own projects is something the RT PMC have avoided in the past.

So please could you ask someone outside Libra on the RT PMC to provide the approval? Mike Keith or Tom Watson are usually helpful in such cases.

Hope you understand.

Regards,
Glyn
