Jay,
Thanks for your suggestion and screen
mockups. Improving discoverability of the presets feature has come up before
and the idea of making it accessible early on the first page definitely has
potential. I posted some comments to Bugzilla
126242. If anyone has comments
on this, please post them directly to the bug instead of replying here so that
all of the comments are preserved.

Subject: [wtp-dev] Facet preset
and wizard enhancement request
I've opened Bugzilla
126242 and 126243
with a suggestion and request for an enhancement to facet presets and the project
wizards.
Here
is the text and screen mockups from 126242. Please comment in the defect.
This is a request to improve the usability of the
various WTP project wizards.
My focus is on the Dynamic Web Project wizard but
this could apply to all
project types.
The request is to move the facet preset selection
from the second page of the
wizard to the first page and present it more as a
"project type" configuration.
Example Web project types might be a Basic Web
project (with no additional
facets defined), a JavaServer Faces project, or a
Struts Web project.
This wizard work would be in conjunction with an
enhancement of the facet
preset extension point so that an icon and
description could be provided for
each preset.
In order to make this use of facet presets
effective, presets should be defined
at the product offering level, so that products
building on top of WTP
determine which facet presets (project types) they
want available to their
users.
Thanks,
Jay
