Re: [vtp-dev] vtp build system
|
Hello,
I would say I'm cautiously optimistic about that their progress, we will
know more after the workshop. It would be nice to be able to contribute
through testing with this new project, but if that looks like too much
we could stay with a straight PDE build system.
I already have a skeleton pde build project setup, that could be
leveraged. Either way this is something I could help out with, as I
already know my way around PDE build.
When you say you do not see the need for a build system do you mean just
this common build infrastructure? Of course using the eclipse pde UI is
an option, but an automated setup has a lot of benefits over manually
building in the UI.

Hi,
as far as I can see they are still fighting for a common standard. Am I
wron at this point? So using that upcoming build system would be nice
since it helps that project to get started, but it also means to have a
lot of more work.
Currently I do not see the need for the build system until it has
reached a point where it really can be used. An immediate alternative to
their approach is to use the built-in support of eclipse.

Hello,
I notice that there is no build setup for the vtp project. I have some
previous experience of release engineering with pde build and would be
happy to help put such a system together.
It also seems like the timing is good, given
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Build_Workshop_3:_Build_Hard_With_A_Purpose, we
should have a pretty big leg up, and an opportunity to help with the
initial community work on this common build infrastructure.
