Eclipse Voice Tools Development Call Minutes

July 28, 2005, 11am EST

Attendees:

Brent D. Metz, IBM
Lenora Wright, IBM
John Muller, Nortel
Jeff Pedigo, SandCherry
Michael Greenawalt, TellMe
Andrew Wahbe, VoiceGenie
Michael Gill, VoiceObjects

The discussion began with a recap of the week's events. An article on contributing to the Voice
Tools Project was submitted to the editors at developerWorks and should be available publicly in
a few weeks, but was offered in Word document form to anyone who wanted to look at it.

The project plan was then discussed, beginning with a discussion on the possibilities for an execution
environment. Continuing from a private email exchange the possibilities of contributing to the
design of a common VoiceXML launching and interaction component was discussed. The idea was proposed
to allow integration with third party development sites such as TellMe Studio, VoiceGenie Developer
Workshop and BeVocal Cafe. It was concluded that writing reference platform implementations that
configured a given developer site to point to a local web server hosting VoiceXML content, optionally
with the use of a free SIP Phone would be a simple way to produce a good execution environment for
the end developer. Various implementation enhancements were discussed to provide functionality like
text-based execution through this model and the future enhancements to provide debugging capabilities
when browsers are running on a remote scenario were discussed.

The project plan's proposed scheduling in conjunction with the Web Tools Project's 1.0 schedule was
discussed and a proposal for comments to extend the development of an initial release to enhance
industry participation was put forth. As no additional resource was volunteered the schedule was not
changed.

A meeting time and place for a face to face was discussed. It was proposed that a face to face meeting
occur immediately after the New Initiatives Session where the Voice Tools Project is presenting,
however due to a scheduling conflict not everyone was able to make that time. It was decided that a
discussion should be taken offline.
