If you use font awesome or other icon fonts, you have the same icons on all operating systems.

If you rely on Emoji, the user experience will be different on each system, for Apple Emoji are not the same than Android Emoji or Windows Emoji.

I would ask it the other way round ;)
Why using something else when the OS's fonts are for most supposed to provide those icons? Why using a collection of font icons as images in the deliverable when the system can provide them?
