I would tend to say no. I think back in the days there was a way to
see simple point geometries from a mysql database, but right now I
didn't hear from mysql plugins for ages.

I think someone thinkered around with a ogr datastore, but I do not
remember who it was.
Jody, do you have any more intel on this?
