Re: [udig-users] Would uDig run on tablet Fujitzu Q550?

Many thanks to both of you, Andrea and Einari.

Seems this thread could rapidly shift to "assessing human perception of computers' performance",
since it is quite unlikey that an Atom Z520 (Asus T91) can outperform an Atom Z670 (Q550) [with twice the ram!]

I wouldn't like to be forced to opt for a Samsung Series 7 Slate.. ..it is around 1'300 Euro!!

Marco

I have the Z670 version of the Q550. uDig works but is slow. I rather recommend
QGIS which runs suprisingly smooth in this tablet.

My I ask you some further detail?

What do you mean by "slow"? Do you mean "slow but usable" or "unbearably slow"?

I know the answer is quite subjective.. ..so, another way to pose the same question for me is:
"performing typical field activities like digitizing poygons, editing geometry nodes and panning topographic grayscale maps, can be effectively performed?"
(I expect ananlysis tools have to be performed on Desktop processors)

Many thanks

Hi Marco,
we are using uDig (with BeeGIS field survey extension) on an ASUS
tablet netbook T91 and are most happy with it.
We bounght a second battery and with the two of them we can handle a
whole day on the field collecting data with bluetooth gps connection
active.

It is slow to startup but then it is ok and most usable.

Ciao,
Andrea

In my case there are annoying delays compared with QGIS.

The digitizing is ok, but for example to redraw a map when panning or to show
feature info takes about 6 seconds in uDig with a topo map sized 17 MB and a
shapefile sized 4 MB. In QGIS these functions are nearly instant.
