 like eu.udig.imagegeoreferencing our code is set as degree = 1. As you can see in the 
WarpTransform2D(final Point2D[] srcCoords, final Point2D[] dstCoords, final int degree);
Where degree is a value between 1 and 7.
Maybe, we should allow to set the degree value in the UI. ?
Not really, it was only a curiosity of mine.
I'm simply asking this because I have tried the standard eu.udig.imagegeoreferencing plugin with order = 2 and the result has heavy distortions. (Maybe it's only matter of marker accuracy and marker numbers)
Just asking if you have tried with greater polynomial order.
