New to uDig and first question on this list - be gentle!

I'd like to use uDig (on Windows) to create an SLD. Within a single layer I have multiple map feature types designated by a smallint [Type] field (from a PostGIS DB). I'm struggling to find the way to build a set of style based on filter expressions. How can I set a different style for Type=1, Type=2, etc. ? 

I took a look at this blog:
http://jgrasstechtips.blogspot.com/2010/11/udig-styles-and-filters.html
and noticed that the dialogs were different from mine. I only get "Simple Feature" and not "Simple Polygons", "Simple Lines", etc. Is this something that has been implemented after my Windows uDig v1.2?
