Re: [udig-users] tile servers

Hi Jody,
Regarding the tile servers you are trying, would you share the links?

In Udig1.2m6 I have not been successfull with adding a layer of wms-c tile layer to udig.

I have tried the following links which seemingly not broken(at least return some form of xml);
http://wmsc1.terrapages.net/getpngmap?SERVICE=WMS&VERSION=1.1.1&REQUEST=GetCapabilities&tiled=true

This one worked for me; I dragged it into the catalog and placed the "unprojected street" layer on the map.
1. layer add
2. select WMS-C
3 paste in the URL
4. and then the geobase layer looked great

This one was tricky - but I had seen how tile server does things before...
1. layer add; and add the countries.shp shapefie or something so you can see where in the world you are
2. layer add; select WMS-C
3. paste in the URL
4. add the ?titled=true
5. select satellite(EPSG:4326/jepg)
6. The screen goes white since tile server is serving up white tiles!
7. Turn on "mylar" so you can see through these white tiles to countries.shp
8. zoom in a bit until the tiles render correctly

Jody

The add data modal window shows an error message like this;

" Not a tiled WMS Service (tiled=true request missing)"

even so the request get parameter has a tiled=true request.

I am new to udig(and gis in general :) ) so forgive me if I have missed something too obvious.

Hi Devrim:

I have been running this release myself (just using it now to check out some tile servers) - so I really have not seen this error message before.

I think it is having some trouble unpacking the EPSG database ... see the messages here:

It unpacks it into a temporary folder; and if you killed the app when it was in the middle of unpacking the database the first time it won't really recover (something that Andrea Aime fixed just yesterday!).

What you can do is go into your temp folder and remove the "GeoTools" directory... on my machine it is located in...

C:\Users\jody\AppData\Local\Temp\Geotools\Databases

Can you give that a whirl and let us know if helps?

Jody

I had no problems running it till today.

Today when I run udig.bat the platform does not startup, gives an error message to to inspect the log file. I dont know what is going on.

My error file can be accessed from http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/581138/error.log.

Any advices?

PS. I paste the last part of the log file here...
