Re: [udig-users] Help or guidance with Oracle Spatial data

Do not be hard on yourself; oracle spatial is always a bit of fun to set up. If you really want fun try setting up ArcSDE ontop of OracleSpatial :-)

Okay you are using uDig 1.1 that is good to know; hopefully uDig 1.1.1 :-)

One thing to keep in mind is that we depend on our community for testing; in this case I know Oracle users have gotten back to me; but in general do not assume that problems
have already been reported when working with open source software.

know how to properly use the uDig interface. I can delete a
feature. I apparently don't know how to add a feature to a
layer from oracle. I can even go as far to modify the feature
but the save option is not available.

There are three "create" tools in a little drop down list; create point, create line and create polygon. Once you have started a polygon you can use the edit geometry tool (and the hole cutter tool) to work on it. There are a few other ways to create a polygon (the fill tools and the circle tool).

For details try out walkthroug 2:

Yes

Okay great; that means you have your oracle drivers set up correctly and everything.

> Do your tables show up in the uDig catalog?
Yes

Even better.

> When and add an oracle table to a map is a layer created?
Yes

Also good.

No errors

No errors; and you cannot see anything? Usually there should be a warning if absolutely no features are drawn;  can you send me  a screen snap once you have
an oracle based layer on the screen?

I should also ask (since you talk a lot about creating features) if you have any data at all in these layers?

No

Okay cool; thanks for looking.
