Re: [udig-users] Problems connecting to Deegree WFS server with Udig
|
There are two things going on:
- The Deegree server you are working with may be using WFS 1.1 - uDig
1.1.0 only supports WFS 1.0 (we have limited support for WFS 1.1 on
trunk but I have not tested it)
- The Deegree server is not always compliant with the specification; we
corrected a few mistakes Deegree requiring a "namespace" parameter with
KVP GetFeature queries for example. Depending on the version of the
Deegree server you are using this problem may (or may not) of been
fixed. Please try using the WFS advanced options (like GET vs POST or
Strict)
So if you can give me a link to the WFS server; or cut and paste an
error message from the uDig log we can start to see what the problem is.
Note it is *very* common for WFS servers not to work (if this was
mapserver I would just guess that the server had not been set up
correctly); however Deegree servers are generally pretty good.
You will find that other applications like OpenJump or Gdal do not
actually parse the GML (they kind of guess what is going on based on
where they find a Geometry in the XML stream). uDig actually fetches the
XML Schema (ie the DescribeFeatureType request) and uses the information
to parse the GML file - as such uDig is more prone to failure if the WFS
server is not set up correctly; the advantage is we can bring the data
across in the intended form (as Dates rather than Strings; or as Numbers
rather than Strings).

Hi,
We are setting up WFS and WMS service based on Deegree 2 (2.1 2007/11/08 09:57 build-327-official). Currently we are having problems with connecting to it with uDig 1.1-SC3. The list of available layers can be found, but the client doesn't understand the geometries and cannot read the attribute data.
We tried also the demo WFS server of deegree (http://demo.deegree.org/deegree-wfs/), but the same problem occurs. We tested the WFS servers also with openJump and it seems to work.
Does the uDig support the deegree WFS servers or are we doing something wrong when we try to connect the server?
Thank you for the help and kind regards,
Juuso Vanonen
